Mazzi's glass journey

Mazzi olsen took her first stained glass class in 2019 at the u of 0 whilst obtaining a double major in psychology & sociology, and instantly fell under the spell of the medium that altered her trajectory forever. in 2021 she gained mentorship experience as a studio assistant for a local glass artist, until later going independent to sell art full time.

currently, mazzi operates out of a dreamy, light-filled studio in portland, or. under the moniker mystery glass. each of the works is made painstakingly with love, blood, & magic, following the tiffany copper foil method of cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, and polishing every individual piece of glass,

mazzi has become recognized at traveling expos and local markets for her distinctive triptych booth displays, which were custom designed and made in house to create an immersive mystery glass gallery sideshow experience.

What inspires me as an artist

I view art as a spell and the act of creation as my own personal spiritual practice, tapping into my intuition for inspiration and visionary images. i am fascinated by the composition of the human spirit: the head, the heart & the hands. these realms contain our greatest capacity for creation within.

windows act as portals to view the world; the eyes of a house, the transparent threshold between the home and the other.  each of my works is imbued with symbolism designed to serve as sacred amulets for your window.

my work is in conversation with the iconography imagery depicted in traditional cathedral glass. i invoke visual storytelling as a way to harken back to stained glass's original purpose during medieval times whilst still expanding my own symbolic lexicon and visual language to express the mechanisms of my inner world.
